Mother’s Day

IMG_16101

Mother’s Day 2011 was perfect! It helps when you have a little one crawl up to you and say “Happy Modder’s Day! Mommy!” Melt. my. heart.

We, of course, headed to church that morning and stopped by my parent’s house to grab a quick lunch and tell her (and Nana) happy mother’s day. We headed home and Ava and Adam gave me the best gift I could have asked for- a nap! It wasn’t planned, but, all three of us ended up falling asleep and taking a good nap! We are usually so busy, even on Sundays that we don’t have time for a nap, or Ava falls asleep on the way home from church and will wake up as soon as we carry her into the house and you can kiss any other naptime good-bye. So it was a real treat for me to be able to take a good nap! (Funny how after you have kids your wish list changes and a nap jumps to the top of it! haha!)

After waking up from our naps, Adam mentioned wanting to ride up and see the fire that was burning in the Okefenokee Swamp. I’m such great wife to spend my mother’s day chasing fires ;) We loaded up and headed north and had a good time riding around.

We turned down one road and saw a helicopter flying around not too far above us and realized about 30 seconds later a forestry truck turned in behind us and so we decided rather than get into trouble for trespassing (since we were one of the service roads into the swamp) we would pretend we were lost and turning around- haha!

However, had we kept driving we would have been really close to the fire, so its probably a good thing we turned around.

We spent about 4 hours just driving around. We passed some interesting characters on the road, when we passed a few places we thought we heard a faint banjo playing- warning us to turn around- haha!

A few times I thought we might be lost, and of course out where we were riding around we didn’t have cell phone service. We had to drive over more than I can count wooden bridges. I don’t know about you, but that just doesn’t give me a good feeling as I’m driving over wooden planks without anything underneath them. I was glad to be back on paved roads when we headed home!

By the time we made it back home we were all tired and ready to get out of the car! We did have a good time and saw some breathtaking views of the fire. It was nice to just spend time together. Ava even enjoyed riding around looking at everything and it gave Adam and me a chance to talk, since when we are at home we are usually running around taking care of everything that needs to be done and playing with Ava.
