Easter Morning

IMG_11942

Easter morning we woke up and had breakfast together (which is a rarity in our house) and got ready for church. Before we got ready though, we sat down and opened the last egg in the Resurrection Eggs. Easter is very hard to explain to a 2 year old, even one who comprehends pretty well. We thought that even though the eggs might be a little over her head, they would definitely help when trying to explain the meaning behind Easter

Ava opened a couple each night and then we would read the verse and devotion that went along with it. I think it made it much more tangible this way. I don’t think she fully understands what it means for someone to die, which quite frankly, I’m happy with, but I wanted her to get a sense of what Jesus did for us.

She understood the part about people doing a bad thing and the sadness that people felt in the stories, but in her world, you give someone a hug and/or a kiss and it makes it all better. So, while we discussed the Easter story, I tried to help her understand the seriousness of the day(s) and help her to see the positive side of it and how Jesus did this for her! I didn’t dwell too much on the death, I didn’t feel it would be necessary to get the point across and she really wouldn’t understand it anyway. We did talk about Jesus dying on the cross and on Sunday morning when she opened the last egg, it was empty, we were able to tell her it was empty just like the tomb.

It worked out great that we had the bunny visit on Friday night, we enjoyed watching her play and open her gifts on Saturday and Sunday was all about Jesus, which is the way it should be anyways. I think this is a tradition we will keep for a long time.
