Disney Vacation: Day 1

IMG_4053

We started our Disney vacation out the right way in Adam’s mind…With a Braves Spring Training game. We drove down to Orlando that morning and met up with my Aunt Ann, Uncle Scott, and Elyse. Elyse was running in the princess marathon the next day, the real reason we planned to visit Disney at this particular time.

The Braves were playing the Yankees so of course, it was sold out. We had pretty good seats it was just so stinkin’ hot! I mean February! Come on!

Its funny, Ava had her tomahawk ready to do the chop and they never played the music. When we left, she wanted to know why they didn’t ever do it! Poor thing, she was so excited about that!

The Braves didn’t look real good, but apparently, based on their season’s performance thus far, that was a fluke.  After the game we headed back to the hotel to try again to get our rooms. There was problems trying to get them earlier, it seemed if it wasn’t one thing wrong, it was another- and it was all technical issues! Maybe this was the reason Adam came along-ha!

Finally, we had the keys to our rooms, Ava even received a letter from Tiana welcoming her to the hotel. We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside in the ‘Royal Rooms’. We later dubbed the room my Aunt was staying in as the SQ (servants quarters) haha!

The royal rooms were a little more decorated than the regular rooms and had gifts from each of the princesses to Tiana found throughout the room.

For instance, does anyone recognize this footstool? (Need a hint: Beauty and the Beast)

Or this magic flying carpet from Aladdin?

We even had the Genie’s lamp as a faucet

Ava was so excited to see the room. When we were checking in they told her to make sure she pushed the button on the side of the headboard to see what happened. Well you know my cautious child, she was too scared to see what might happen, so I had to push it for her.

Magically, fireworks appeared! Smile

Nothing is nearly as fun as when you watch it through a child’s eyes- she thought it was so cool and the fireworks would go off several times each night!

We also had a surprise for Elyse! We were trying to think of something to do for the race and we thought about t-shirts but with Florida who knew what the weather was going to be like, so I thought of these big heads- lol! While they were down in the room, we pulled them out and surprised her with them- ha! I still crack up laughing at this picture!

After getting settled into our room, we freshened up and went to find something to eat. We actually tried to eat dinner at the hotel restaurant  but thanks to the thousands of runners (we were staying at the designated race hotel) we opted for the quick service restaurant at the hotel, which again thanks to the runners wasn’t very quick. The hotel, we were told, was at 100% capacity- you could definitely tell! ha! After dinner, we took the river ferry to Downtown Disney and Ava picked out something from the World of Disney store and played in the Lego store for a little while and then we knew it would be an early morning for Elyse so we headed back. Elyse would have to be up and going by 3:00 so that didn’t leave her a lot of time. Luckily she is a nurse who works nights- so she is used to the whole no sleep thing Smile
