First Fire of the Season

Fire

Tonight we decided to have a low-key, eat leftovers and just chill kind of night. And we did exactly that. We had a fire in the fire pit- our first fire of the season I might add. Woo-hoo for fall! We had a very busy weekend (more on that to come) and have a few busy weeks/weekends coming up- ‘Tis the Season, right? So it just seemed fitting that we take it easy and simple tonight.

While we were sitting outside, Adam was stoking the fire and Ava, very nonchalant said, ‘Daddy, you sure know how to work that fire pit!’

Well thanks for that Ava- We tried to stifle our laughter, but oh.my! We couldn’t help it!

A few minutes later, I asked her how she got to be so smart and she replied, ‘By helping Daddy!’

Break my heart- it was so sweet and sincere- and probably a lot of truth.

Growing up my dad insisted on teaching my sister and myself (more me than her- she was the ‘baby’) about how to do anything around the house. We would have given our right arm at the time to be doing something other than working on a pump or gluing pipe together, fixing a toilet, or learning what kind of snake was in the yard….For the record- a snake is a snake in my book, and we have killed 2 pygmy rattlers this week at our house. While at the time I didn’t really appreciate him passing or trying to pass along his knowledge, I’m grateful that I’m pretty self-sufficient around the house thanks to him.

All that to say she is very wise in her thinking.

She also was very unwise ‘knowingly’ told her very first lie to me yesterday. I’m so not ready for the lying phase! Ugh! Maybe she will be the only child in history to learn quickly that lying has greater consequences than telling the truth- if you believe otherwise, please don’t bother telling me.

It’s our high school’s homecoming this week- so we will be enjoying some candy gathering tomorrow during the parade. Maybe this time I will remember to bring a bag so she doesn’t have to carry it in her skirt.
