Splashin’ in the Rain

We have Netflix (which is a streaming movie/tv show program that allows us to instantly watch movies or shows and we also have the dvd option so we can watch dvd’s that aren’t available to stream- I mention this so that in 20 years when I am reading the book I will remember what exactly Netflix was….)

I absolutely LOVE old movies, and by old I mean from the 50’s and 60’s era. There isn’t anything better than a Rock Hudson/Doris Day romantic comedy, in fact, one of my Christmas presents from Adam was a DVD of 2 RH/DD movies…pure bliss!

I also love musicals and always have. I’m probably going to affirm how much of a dork I am with this next statement, but when I was younger (and even  when I was older and before I had Ava and cartoons consumed my tv time) on Saturdays I would watch whatever movies were on TCM or AMC. I really think actors/actresses were so much talented as a whole than they are now. Not only could they act, they could also sing and dance, all at the same time!!!

One thing I love about Netflix is the ability to watch all those old movies and musicals. Ava must take after me in regards to her tv watching preferences. She likes the old movies and especially musicals, she will try to mimic whatever dance they are doing on the tv. We don’t have time to watch full length movies very often, especially lately since we all seem to keep passing a virus amongst the three of us, all we want to do is sleep….however, I knew the next one in our queue would be one Ava would probably enjoy. We watched the infamous ‘Singin’ In the Rain’ musical and I think Ava took it to heart!

After work it had been raining and I had mentioned when I picked her up at mom’s that she could splash in the water puddle, well you didn’t need to tell the child twice. As soon as we got home she wanted to put on her raincoat and head back out. I didn’t want her to get soaking wet, so we put her boots on that her Aunt Ro-ro bought for her (she also bought her the raincoat) and she went out to find a puddle.

She was so excited. I think she splashed for a solid 30 minutes and only stopped because her Daddy came home and she was interested in what he was doing. I meanwhile, stayed dry right inside the garage, happily watching her play. Playing around in a water puddle probably didn’t help get rid of the colds we have been carrying around in the house, but it sure made for some afternoon fun!

Ava’s bow kept inching its way toward the front of her head with the hood of the coat on, it eventually fell off into the water :) Fortunately with the aid of the boots and rain coat she stayed dry, except for a little part of her leggings and she wasn’t muddy since she played in an area that was either concrete or lava rocks…mommy was happy about that!

There is a lot to be said about the fun of splashing in a water puddle!

She looks like she had fun. Don't worry - you all aren't the only ones sick lately (minus Jason). Sometimes you just have to let them out of the house to have fun - they could go stir crazy.
